This age old stone that Michael Angelo used to make his famous sculptures still holds a mysterious fascination in our minds. It comes in a myriad of colours,  and is certainly elegant.

The best known marble is mined in India and Italy, although other countries like Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Nepal, Iran and several others have deposits are found in Rajasthan.

Marble is basically formed from limestone, and its colour, textures and general make up come from the fossilized material that is embedded in the stone as it cools down.   

Since marble is basically limestone, it is a little more brittle than granite. Marble is known for its durability. It is resistant to fire and does  not erode easily.
